FuturixImager 5.9.4

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

So… after a half year break I’m happy to announce a new release of FuturixImager – a minor one, but finally with more than just bug-fixes (as all previous release in 2009 were). The download is in the usual place :-)

Imager now supports JPEG XR format (also known as HD Photo or Windows Media Photo) – in July it was approved as ISO standard and will possibly be a successor to JPEG. Or at least that’s what Microsoft wants it to be!

Warning: if you are running Imager on Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003, you will need to install a small system update to make JPEG XR support work (32 bit or 64 bit). You already have it if you have installed .NET Framework 3 (or newer). The update is not needed for Windows Vista or newer (and it is included in XP SP3).

I also started rewriting parts of Imager that can be incompatible with the future Unicode release – so version 5.9.4 is the first one to have some will benefit from some improvements resulting from that. For example I discovered and fixed some performance issues with loading multi-page TIFF file (some of my test images now load twice faster!).

And finally, I have several experimental plug-ins that I plan to publish next week – so come back soon :-P
